Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day, everyone! A special shout out to my mom for being the best mom ever!

This week went pretty well. The main excitement of the week was that my friends and I got JT tickets at the PNC Arena! So excited, but bummed that it isn't til November!

This week was the last training week before my 2nd half marathon of the Raleigh Triple Crown series. My week day runs went ok, my 5K time blows. I thought I was going to be at least 4 minutes faster than I was. Yesterday's long run was a disaster and a half. Unfortunately, my running partner, Rachel, is injured and won't be able to run. I went out to Umstead and felt pretty confident. Well, I hit a wall at 2.13 miles. Yeah. My water pack chaffed my arm, bugs were EVERYWHERE, a snake scared the bejesus out of me, there was a crazy squirrel convention that creeped me out, it was humid.....urgh, the whiney list goes on and goes. I was as slow as molasses......8 miles in 2 hours. I'm tapering this week so, hopefully, I'll do a lot better on Sunday with rested legs.

I think I decided on my first marathon and it is a fast and flat course in Huntington, WV. It's the Marshall University Marathon and close to Matt's parents house. We will see, 26.2 miles is a loooonnnggggggg run.

Jager is doing better, he has another glucose day test on Thursday, so hopefully his sugars are stable.

I'm looking forward to this week bc my parents are coming in and I'm excited to see them. I took two days off since they are coming in and I have my race. It's going to be a fun week!

Weekend Update

My weekend was pretty nice and relaxing. I've been really tired all week and eating all weird, so I decided to get my thyroid checked. I have been feeling great the past few months, especially since I've stayed on track with my Raleigh Triple Crown training. The past two weeks or so, I've been so tired, eating more and I have a taste for Cheez Its and McDonalds double dipped cones. No, I'm NOT pregnant, I think with my increased training my thyroid might be off.

Our run on Saturday didn't go real well. Rachel tweaked her foot earlier in the week and it was really bothering her, so we slowed way down and only did nine miles. We have a tricky month ahead bc we have two half marathons that are two weeks apart. We have to make sure we keep up our endurance, but rest our legs enough.

The rest of our weekend consisted of going to get flowers and veggies for Matt's garden at Home Depot and watching playoff hockey. I LOVE playoff hockey and having one of my teams in it always makes it better. My major complaint is PIERRE MCGUIRE. He truly ruins every game for me. I LOVE Doc and Eddie, but Pierre is truly annoying. I wish there was a mute button for him......and that someone would punch him in the face.

This week Jager had to be dropped off at the vet for another sugar check and the vet told us that she was worried that he isn't responding to the insulin and wanted to run some blood work to make sure he didn't have a thyroid issue or pancreatitis. We were worried but thankfully, the blood work came back fine and was put on a animal insulin called Vetsulin. He started Saturday morning, and I don't see much change in him. He is still sleepy, mopey, and drinking a lot. I just hope my pup feels better soon.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yes, I'm Irish, but I have never had red corned beef before, my family has always made the gray and it is AAMMAAZZIINNGG. Today, Matt made the red corned beef and little red potatoes and it was good! Matt HATES corned beef but he made it anyway for us. I'm pretty sure he is starving and will make up for it in ice cream. I have leftovers for days.

One Saturday, Rachel and I headed to the Art Museum for our eight miler. First off, we HATE the Art Museum....it is AWFUL. I swear it is all uphill and it is a nightmare. Anyway, we went super slow and easy since both of us are slightly injured. Thankfully, my knee is better and now it is just my heel that is bothering me. Next week, we have a 10 miler on Saturday on my birthday.

Saturday night we had our friends over to watch the Hurricanes game and had some fantastic ziti made by Matt. Julie and Moseley's daughter,Stella, is four months and getting so big! She is a nice little addition to our group!

Our pups were super lazy this weekend.

I also treated myself to a Shamrock Shake this week and it was so good!

So, that's it! Hope everyone has a great week!

Six Weeks Til Half #1

This was a pretty good week. I got in all my training runs and ST (strength training) sessions in. I had my best time for two miles this week, which was cool.

I struggled with week with plantar fasciitis and I have been rolling it out with my Thera-Band Foot Roller and a frozen water bottle.I have been stretching as much as I can and it is helping. Matt has also been massaging my foot which is super nice of him but super painful.

Our long run was at Cary North Park and I was surprised how great I felt afterwards bc after last week's long run, I felt awful! My Garmin lost signal but luckily Rachel did Map My Run and we didn't lose our stats. We did 5.5 miles in 1:20:49, which is an easy 14:42 minute mile and burned 658 calories! I logged in the most steps ever on my FitBit as well...14,647 steps! That's 7.1 miles! I haven't lost a lot of weight but my clothes are looser and I felt good.

After our run, we took the dogs to the vet and found out that Guinness gained five pounds! Fatty MCSausage Dog will be going to on more walks and we are cutting back on his food. Jager passed with flying colors. We will hopefully be getting their teeth cleaned soon but man, it is EXPENSIVE!

So, that's it! Hope everyone has a great week! I want to give a shout out to my niece, Claire, who turned six on Friday! Happy Birthday, Claire!

I Don't Think It's Working, But It's OK

I'm really getting tired of counting calories and points, it is so overwhelming sometimes. I like the idea of it, but it just doesn't fit with my personality. I have a history of eating issues and getting obsessed with points isn't helping.  I'm thinking that Weight Watchers isn't for me, I think I'm just going to relax and focus more on running and training for my three half marathons. I'm just going to watch portions, stay hydrated, limit junk, and add more fruits and veggies to my diet. I'm going to try and not obsess about weight and focus on getting stronger. I'm going to get all my training runs, strength training and stationary bikes sessions in. I'll focus more on food being fuel.

On Saturday night, we hung out with our college friends and had a great time. We had tacos and two desserts. We made a great Oreo pudding dessert and Aurora made her version of the pig Kit Kat cake:

I wish I would've taken a picture of her version of it, bc it was super cute and delicious!

Our weekly Saturday run was rainy, wet and cold. It was drastically different than last Saturday bc I felt great during and after my last run....this time, not so much! This Saturday's weather was rainy and 36 degrees and I was soaked to the bone. I had to squeeze all the water from my clothes and my hair. I also collected about an inch or two of water in my pockets. I also felt heavy and out of shape bc I got so out of breath. It just wasn't a great run for me, hopefully next week it will be better.

I have workouts planned daily except for Friday bc Friday is my rest day. This week, I've got two runs, two strength training sessions, and our Saturday long run which will be at five miles. Our first race is April 14th and it's approaching quickly. I want to be strong and ready to run.

Urgh, and off subject, but I'm catching up on Biggest Loser and I'm not liking Gina at all. She is super annoying.

I've Been A Bad, Bad Girl

Yeah, this past week was a major DISASTER!

Yeah, I GAINED 6.9lbs in a week! Disturbing and impressive. It truly shows what happens when I don't work out, eat insane portions and eat crap. I don't think I saw a fruit or veggie (unless you count the pizza sauce I ate) all week. I barely drank any water and I felt sluggish and nasty all week. I gain so fast bc well, duh I ate insane portions but also bc my metabolism is super slow and it's probably due to my thyroid. I did a metabolic breath test at my nutritionist office and she confirmed that my metabolic rate is crap, below average. So, it just means I have to work harder to get the results I want.

So, I'm training for my sixth, seventh, and eighth half marathon. I'm doing the Raleigh Triple Crown and I'll be doing a race in April, May and June. I really needed a new challenge to get going again. Rachel and I had our first training run on Saturday and it was pretty chilly. We are starting with intervals of 2 minutes walking and 1 minute running. We went to Shelley Lake and did 2 miles nice and easy.

After the run, we headed to Panera and I got a Breakfast Power Sandwich with egg whites for 7pp and it was great! I LOVE Vermont sharp cheese!  I stayed contently full until lunch time.

In health news, I got my MRI done on Friday for my 6 month check of the pituitary mass I have and hopefully I'll get the report/results tomorrow. I also got the results from my CIMT tests and I have the arteries of a 28 year old, so that is good to know. Just gotta keep watch on those cholesterol numbers!

OK, so I've got to do a quick mile run today and then will get my meals ready for the week. The only other plans I have today is watching JT in the Grammy's! I AM SO EXCITED to see him!

Here's to a successful week!
