Canes Game

For Christmas, my brother gave us Carolina Hurricanes hockey tickets. Matt and I are huge fans, so it really was a fantastic gift. Plus, it was Jordan Staal bobblehead night! Thank you, Derek!

We got to the game and quickly realized that we had some pretty sweet seats:

Since the Pats were playing at the same time at the Canes, I had to wear my Pats gear under my Hedican jersey. Devastating game.

As you may remember, I had joked about forgetting an epic kale chip picture. Well, here it is. Make fun all you want, these kale chips are fantastic.

Matt and I trying to decide on whether to get a Fitbit Force or a Fitbit Flex. I have a FitBit Zip and I like it. We've read about some of the issues each device has (rashes, people losing them bc they think they have clasped it correctly etc), but I've heard that most of my friends that I actually know love theirs.

Since 2009, we have participated in the Angels Among Us 5K that raises money for brain cancer. If you are interested, you can join our team, "Take That, Tumors!" or donate to our team. We are hoping to raise $2,100 since it is the 21st year.

Fun in Florida

Last week was a lot of fun bc we went to see "Spirit of a Marathon II" and bc I went to visit family in FL.

On Wednesday night, Matt and I went to a one night showing of "Spirit of a Marathon II" and I really enjoyed it, but not as much as the first one. The first one inspired me to one day do a marathon, BUT the second one scared the crap out of me. I'm truly doubting that I can do it, I keep going back and forth with myself. I have til July 1st to sign up without a price increase.

On Thursday night, I left to visit some of my family in FL and it was so great. I got to see my aunt, cousins, my cousin's new baby and my other cousin's fiance and future stepdaughter. I had a great time catching up and just enjoying spending time with all of them. I had two firsts while I was there: I tried my first oyster (cold, slimy, but not bad) and a lovely alcoholic drink that my aunt introduced me to, a Dark and Stormy (yum!). It was a great visit and I'm hoping that Matt and I will be able to make Chris and Shirley's wedding in November.

I got home on Sunday and celebrated Father's Day by taking a nice long nap with Matt and had a great dinner. The dogs got Matt a book on beer brewing, so thoughtful!

Well, gonna sign off and watch the Bruins. Here's hoping for another win! GO, BRUINS!!!

Sweep!

It was an odd weekend bc I didn't run, I didn't do much of anything but relax and watch the BRUINS SWEEP THE PENS!!!!! Whoo Hoo!!!!!

This past week, I ran once and I tried out some new socks, Injinji socks. They were uncomfortable at first, by by the end of my workout, I hardly felt like I had socks on. I think I'll be sticking with these thru out my (first) marathon training.

I had been on the fence about a marathon for awhile and after reading the July Issue of Runner's World and getting my Boston Strong poster, I decided that I would try it. I chose the Marshall University Marathon on November 10th and will sign up next pay period. I drew up a training plan on my calendar and I'm good to go.

Matt and I have finally started on season four of Arrested of Development and I'm not super impressed. I love Portia De Rossi, but her new face is distracting. I also think that each episode focused on one of the characters doesn't flow as nicely as previous seasons. It is still funny and entertaining.

This week we are going to see a "Spirit of a Marathon 2" and I'm excited bc I loved the first one. After the movie, I will be visiting my aunt and cousin in FL and I have been looking forward to it for months! Great week ahead!

A Nice Long Weekend

This weekend was nice and relaxing, I was glad to not do much since I have my final race of the Raleigh Triple Crown series on Saturday the 1st.

Saturday, Rachel and I met at Shelly lake and knocked out a slow almost seven miles. I felt pretty good and decided on a new pre long long snack....graham crackers and PB. I thought it was weird too, but it was super filling and I felt great. Our run was normal until we had to run by a huge, terrifying pack of geese. I'm not joking, I'm terrified of most birds. This picture doesn't do it's justice.

I spent the rest of the day watching hockey and thankfully, the Bruins pulled out a win to the eastern finals! Whoo hoo! The only thing that pisses me off is that Pierre will be on more and more nights. So obnoxious!

On Sunday, Matt started brewing his beer and it was interesting to see this long ass progress. It'll be weeks before it will be ready, but I will definitely try some.

Today, I babysat Miss Stella today for a bit and had fun playing with her. I even changed a diaper. I'm impressed as well! After, that I relaxed, read and watched TV. Matt made a great dinner for us, burgers and corn on the cob. Yum!

In other exciting news, I finally paid off one of my student loans! I still have one HUGE one left, but it feels great to have one knocked out!

We signed up for a free month of Netflix, despite me loathing them, so we can watch Arrested Development. I can't wait to start the new season!

I guess that's it for now! Next time I update, I should be an official Raleigh Triple Crown finisher! Wish me luck!

Weekend Update

My weekend was pretty nice and relaxing. I've been really tired all week and eating all weird, so I decided to get my thyroid checked. I have been feeling great the past few months, especially since I've stayed on track with my Raleigh Triple Crown training. The past two weeks or so, I've been so tired, eating more and I have a taste for Cheez Its and McDonalds double dipped cones. No, I'm NOT pregnant, I think with my increased training my thyroid might be off.

Our run on Saturday didn't go real well. Rachel tweaked her foot earlier in the week and it was really bothering her, so we slowed way down and only did nine miles. We have a tricky month ahead bc we have two half marathons that are two weeks apart. We have to make sure we keep up our endurance, but rest our legs enough.

The rest of our weekend consisted of going to get flowers and veggies for Matt's garden at Home Depot and watching playoff hockey. I LOVE playoff hockey and having one of my teams in it always makes it better. My major complaint is PIERRE MCGUIRE. He truly ruins every game for me. I LOVE Doc and Eddie, but Pierre is truly annoying. I wish there was a mute button for him......and that someone would punch him in the face.

This week Jager had to be dropped off at the vet for another sugar check and the vet told us that she was worried that he isn't responding to the insulin and wanted to run some blood work to make sure he didn't have a thyroid issue or pancreatitis. We were worried but thankfully, the blood work came back fine and was put on a animal insulin called Vetsulin. He started Saturday morning, and I don't see much change in him. He is still sleepy, mopey, and drinking a lot. I just hope my pup feels better soon.

Bird-a-ful Run

I seem to be back on track, which is great. I weighed in today and down 2.7lbs after last weeks 6.9lb gain.....so, heading in the right direction again. I'm hoping with the half marathon training plan we have I'll be racking up more activity points and be able to lose a bit more weight. I will also be getting my thyroid labs re checked this week, so I might be due for another dose change if it shows I'm still off.

Saturdays Rachel and I headed to Shelley Lake again for our long run. We did our intervals and finished up our four miles in about 58 minutes. I'm surprised I didn't run faster bc there were so many birds! I'm straight up terrified of birds and it seemed like every bird in the city was there....ducks, geese, cranes and even giant hawks. I don't think I've seen so my birds in one place. I can't even tell you the pure terror I feel when I see a pack of Canadian geese.  I took some pictures but, it is kinda hard to see the birds. The hawk was hanging out on the garbage can.

I ate pretty well today and spent most of the day reading bc it was snowy and slushy out. The oatmeal was 8pp and the shrimp salad was 3pp. Not bad.

Other than that, nothing crazy new is going on. I would like to give a shout out to my parents bc the sweatshirt they got me for Christmas came with a hole in it and I had to send it back. They finally got the refund on it and they sent me this:

VERY cool! I love it! Thanks, Mom and Dad!

Gaining Thru The Weekend

It has been a fun weekend, but I'm super frustrated with my weight. I'm fully aware that weight loss isn't an overnight deal, BUT I weighted myself a few days after I started Weight Watchers and I gained TWO FUCKING POUNDS! Are you shitting me?! I was livid. I know my thyroid is still messed up, but that is ridiculous! I always knew my weight loss would be slower bc of my thyroid, but to gain? WTF?!

Urgh, anyway, we had a fun weekend. Our house is clean, but super cluttered. We are still organizing from Christmas and everything. We have been working on organizing, but took a break to do some shopping, We got some organizing containers for our pantry and a cool piece of artwork for the dining room. We also went to Teavana and I got some ideas on what different teas to order.

Healthwise, Matt put together my bike and it is fantastic. I love it! I also made a dessert that I got from Hungry Girl that is worth 4 points. I made Mini Ice Cream Cakes and they are great! I'm totally making it again. Tonight, I'm going to attempt to make another Weight Watchers recipe. I decided on Baked Ziti and it is 7 points a serving.

We also got word that hockey is back, but I'm not going to believe it til I see it with my own eyes!

Here's a few pictures from the weekend:

I LOVE lazy Sundays. I'm relaxing on the couch watching old "Girls Nextdoor" DVDs, reading magazines and watching for some playoff hockey to start.

I got three great workouts in this weekend and feeling great. Clothes are already feeling looser since last week.

Today's workout was:

I haven't had chocolate in a week and so far, so good. No cravings so far, but it's still VERY early.

Oh and great news! Two nights in a row with NO JOINT PAIN! I'm thrilled!

Shout out to my two great friends, Julie and Jess, for completing a half marathon this weekend! I'm so impressed with your hard work and dedication. WAY TO GO!

Bruins win! I love Tim Thomas!

What a hit!

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

The NHL playoffs started tonight and I'm always excited to watch the games. My team, the Carolina Hurricanes, sucked ass again this year and are out. My other team, the Boston Bruins, are in it and are playing the Caps tomorrow night.
Tonight, we are watching the Flyers and Pens. I HATE both teams, but I especially loathe the Pens and Crosby. If I took a drink every time the commentators, especially Pierre McGuire, mentioned Crosby, I'd be drunk before the second period.
Here's to a fun playoff season!
